When we walked into quaint Alana’s Cafe on bustling Burlingame Avenue, we immediately took in the warm, sweet smell of oatmeal pancakes and cinnamon tea.

Alana’s is a local favorite for breakfast and lunch because of the friendly service, gracious owners and delicious comfort food.

Alana’s is the type of place where you can go by yourself and sit at the counter or meet friends and family.  During peak hours, the small cafe is packed and on weekends, there is always a long line.

The neighborhood cafe is decorated with warm golden and orange tones and feels very homey.  The charming tables are covered in cute fabric with cherries, blueberries and flowers.  The cafe has indoor tables, counter seats overlooking the open kitchen and outdoor patio seating. Since the weather was sunny, I sat outside under a bright, orange umbrella.

The pancakes are served with cinnamon apples, which are the perfect combination of spiciness with the sweet maple syrup and powdered sugar sprinkled on top.  The sausage was juicy, sweet and salty all at the same time.

I was in the mood for something sweet so I ordered their famous Swedish oatmeal pancakes, which were incredible.  The pancakes are served with cinnamon apples, which are the perfect combination of spiciness with the sweet maple syrup and powdered sugar sprinkled on top.

The pancakes are large, thick and filling with a soft oatmeal texture. Since I wanted some protein, I also ordered the chicken apple sausage, which was delicious. The sausage was juicy, sweet and salty all at the same time.

To quench my thirst, I enjoyed hot spiced tea, which is a unique combination of black tea, cinnamon, orange, lemon and cloves.  You can even buy the spiced tea and packages of the Swedish oatmeal pancakes to take home.

Alana’s is the place to be on Burlingame Avenue. It is a cozy environment where the locals like to hangout and enjoy homemade comfort food.  Everything is made on site and the varied menu offers everything from pancakes, quiche, veggie burgers, soup, salads and sandwiches.  Alana’s is also kid friendly, offering a special child’s menu.

The local owners are genuinely kind and make you feel like they’ve known you forever.  For good quality food in a comfortable and relaxing setting, I highly recommend Alana’s Cafe.
