On Friday, Sept. 5, a fire broke out in West Portal affecting five local businesses. No one was injured, and it seems that no owners will need to be displaced from their businesses. 

The incident occurred between 157 and 163 West Portal Ave. The businesses affected include Invisible Jet Comics, Ivy En Rose, Face to Face Hair Design, and two law firms. 

According to SFGate, the address includes George’s Donuts & Merriment, a store that was scheduled to open this summer. 

“I thought maybe I’d go visit that place (Invisible Jet Comics) one of these days until I heard about the fire,” said Jessica Cheung ’26

SFFD’s official X (Twitter) account posted that they received a call at 12:48 PM.  They were able to take control of the fire at 2:04 PM. As of now, the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Police and firefighters at the scene shut down West Portal Avenue between 14th Avenue and Vicente Street, causing the Muni line to be shut down for multiple hours.
