Every year, Riordan participates in the San Francisco Fire Department Toy Drive. This toy drive is a competition to bring in more toys than the previous year.

The drive is a “4 house one roof” competition, meaning, if the school donates more toys than last year, the whole school will receive modified dress.

CORE moderator Joshua Keeney has worked hard with the CORE Service Team to advertise this drive. He said, “We have placed a blurb in the daily bulletin and have created a commercial for the telecast.”

The Core Service Team has done the best they can to advertise and make sure less fortunate children have a joyful Christmas.

Gabe Wassmer ’19 said, “Every year my family donates two toys, one (for a) female and one (for a) male, because we know that just those two can really make a difference.” Every toy will be donated to a family in need to assist the parents and make Christmas time joyful for children.

Each individual donation may seem small, but it can make an impact on the life of children and their families. Wassmer said, “As a kid, I was lucky enough to have enough toys to last me my whole childhood. It is sad to see some children not grow up with any toys and not be able to experience the fun of playing with toys.”

Riordan students and staff have the ability to change this and put a temporary fix on this issue. These toys give hope to the next generation of children born in poverty.
