On November 19, 2024, Raising Canes opened up in Colma, making it the first location of the San Francisco Peninsula and the 100th location in California. This is the Bay Area’s fifth location, with the other 4 going to Oakland, Hayward, Vacaville, and Fairfield.
According to SFGATE, in honor of its 100th store, Raising Cane’s offered incentives. Raising Canes gave 100 customers free Canes for a year through a drawing. They must have been 13 years or older and showed up in person to be eligible.
Danielle Joy Balayut ’25, who camped outside of Raising Canes for the drawing, said, “It was freezing even though we were wearing lots of thick layers… The lot was also really quiet since it was really late at night and cold so everyone just hibernated in their own areas.”
The first drawing selected 20 winners from the people that showed up early on opening day. The second drawing selected the rest throughout the day. In addition, the first 100 dine in customers that ordered a combo received a commemorative beanie and a free box card.
Jax Toscano ’25, who entered and won in the first drawing, says, “At the time of the drawing the line had grown to over 450 people and wrapped all the way to the Home Depot on the other end of the parking lot. As time got closer to the official opening more and more festivities arrived at the location including a hot air balloon, a giant inflatable dog (the brand’s mascot), a live DJ, a live mural painting, and the El Camino Cheer Squad. When it finally came time to do the drawing, all 450+ people in line wrote their name on a slip of paper and inserted it into a cardboard box.”
This location has a double lane drive thru, an outdoor patio, and decor that honors Colma’s history and motto. In terms of future plans, Raising Cane’s plans to open their next location in the Bay Area in San Jose this upcoming January 28.
