Making a return, Riordan’s Junior Varsity football team tackles for success.
This year, Riordan’s Varsity football team has 52 players, while the Junior Varsity team has 51 players. Although Riordan’s football program does not have a Freshman team, this year there are a total of 24 freshmen on Varsity and Junior Varsity combined.
Practicing everyday, the team works on, “versions of what the varsity teams run on a smaller scale” expressed Bob Greene, Athletic Director.
The junior varsity program has expanded by integrating focus and consistency with their work and has been able to attract players from various schools and states.
Penieli Pan ’27, an out-of-state transfer student stated, “Everybody on the team is like a brotherhood, we’re like a family.”
The football team is composed of numerous players who have been practicing, “drills, concepts, plays and work that is similar to the varsity, but specifically set to the needs and ability of the JV team,” asserted Greene.
Fotu Lavulo, ‘27, a freshman player stated, “I came here because of the coaches, the community, the brotherhood, and to further my football career.”
As a team, the Junior Varsity has positively kicked off their goals as both individuals and as a team immensely. Preparing for the season these athletes work to improve themselves to, “be great on the field and be great in the classroom”, exclaimed DJ Jackson 27’.
Nonetheless, this team’s goals have not been fumbled. The Junior Varsity football team finished their regular season with a record of 6-2.
