Riordan recently held a canned food drive, which was a competition between the four houses but the real winners were the recipients of all the food donated by our student body.
All the cans went to St. Teresa’s and St. Anthony’s parish communities. There were a total of 1,804 cans, with the House of Russi bringing in the most at 890 cans donated.
The amount of cans donated between each house in descending order were: Russi with 890 cans, Cana with 845, Bolts with 765, and lastly Pilar with 372 cans.
Religious studies teacher Joshua Keeney said, “Russi winning is important and produces good camaraderie within the house as well as puts us back in our rightful place at the top, but I have much more joy because we could put food into the bellies of those who are hungry.”
Originally, the goal was to collect 1,000 canned food items, but the Riordan community came together and nearly doubled the original goal. This resulted in the donations feeding the hearts of the homeless community in San Francisco through St. Teresa and St. Anthony’s parish.
Co-coordinator Hana Wadlow ’25 said, “The canned food drive helped not only the Riordan community to kick off the year with an amazing drive but also helped so many people in need.”
