The Riordan varsity basketball team started their pre-season with a 4-3 record, most recently defeating Clovis North 74-65.
Led by head coach Joey Curtin ’01, the Varsity boys hope to have a stellar regular season after the upcoming winter break with their first opponents in the WCAL, Saint Francis.
Varsity Player Jasir Rencher ’25 said, “This season is different from last season because I am now an upperclassman so now I have more on my plate. I feel like people go to me if they don’t understand something.”
He added, “I have been with Coach Joey for the longest on the team so I know what he expects from us and what his standards are.”
New player Nes Emeneke ’25 discussed how he feels as a new student and player at Riordan, saying, “Feels great to be at a school where diversity is celebrated and respected. I can see myself in everyone here who is trying to better their life using athletics and that’s really important to me.”
In addition, Kaia Berridge ’24 and Jordy Mckenzie ’24 agree that their goals for this season are to win CCS and expand that win to state.
This season, the Varsity basketball team will continue to strive for greatness to reach their goals of becoming the league champions, CCS and NorCal title holders, which they hope will lead them to become state champions.
