A new aroma of sizzling spices and the taste of exotic flavors are taking over Riordan.
Moderated by Brian Davis, and led by Justin Lu ’26 and Timothy Yuen ’26, ARHS Cooking Club is set to ignite a culinary revolution in the school.
Davis’ journey into the world of culinary arts began with his love for cooking, saying, “I like cooking by myself, going to places like New Orleans that made me like food and culinary arts.”
Inspired by seeing a vibrant food scene and his favorite restaurant Hunan Cafe, he embarked on a mission to share his passion for cooking with others.
With support of Vice Principal of Student Affairs Brian Kelly and the rest of the administration team, they chose to have a kickoff meeting, and with over 30 members attending the initial meeting, the club was born.
“I think the Cooking Club is a good opportunity for students to learn the basics of cooking since it’s an important skill to learn, especially when you’re older,.” said Jaythan Chen ’26.
The club offers a golden opportunity to hone in essential life skills in a supportive and communal environment. From learning basic techniques to experimenting with new recipes, the club is promising to be a gigantic melting pot of not just culinary excitement but growth.
The excitement is already brewing up for the club’s first event. After speaking with the members a planned hotpot fusion event is already in the works, combining the wonderful hotpot recipe with American Barbecue.
Future events are also now in the planning stage as the Cooking Club now has access to Riordan’s concession facilities, giving them the ability to have events outside of school hours and during sporting events.
Seasoned chefs and novices alike are welcomed to join the ARHS Cooking Club welcomes those who share their passionate interest in the kitchen to grab their aprons and embark on a delicious journey to the kitchen (when the club meets).
“Every dish is an opportunity to create memories,” said Lu.
