On Sept. 6, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was released in theaters and intrigued audiences with its flashy horror-comedy mix.
It is a sequel to the original Tim Burton film Beetlejuice, which quickly became a Halloween classic. In the film, audiences follow Lydia Deetz, her daughter Astrid, and Lydia’s mother Delia as they return to Winter River 36 years later for her father’s funeral. After meeting a ghost, Astrid accidentally ends up in the afterlife. Lydia then calls on Beetlejuice for help as he causes chaos along the way.
Though this movie is a sequel, it has become a smash hit for people who haven’t seen the original. “I liked it a lot,” said Marcelo Quinonez ’26. “I loved how it spent a lot of its time world-building and getting submerged into the plot.”
People who have also seen both movies have loved it too. Sophia L’Don ’27 said, “It adds on to the plot rather than doing something completely different.”
For me, the movie was very enjoyable.
“No one can do weird and spooky like Tim Burton,” said theater director Greg Callaghan. The unique style of this movie is what makes it so exciting, from its flashy jokes to its practical effects.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a must-see for the 2024 Halloween season and will have fans rewatching it yearly!
