2018 box office hits introduce more diverse casts

2018 was filled with many outstanding films that brought people together. However, five movies made it to the top.

 

First on the list is “Black Panther.” “Black Panther” tells the story of T’Challa, the upcoming King of Wakanda, and his struggle to keep his kingdom safe from his enemies.The movie received a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and earned $1.34 billion dollars at the box office. It also was nominated for Best Picture and won Best Original Music Score during the 2019 Oscars.

 

Second on the list is “A Quiet Place.” This horror/thriller tells of a family and their lives in a world where, “If they hear you, they hunt you.” The movie received a 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and $350 billion at the box office. It also won plenty of awards such as an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing.

 

Third is “Crazy Rich Asians.” Based off the novel, the movie tells the story of Rachel Chu and her boyfriend, Nick, who is crazy rich. When she accompanies him to Singapore, she learns that she has to deal with her new foes, one being Nick’s mother who disapproves of her. The movie received $238.5 million dollars in box office revenue and a 91 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also won awards such as the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Comedy.

 

Fourth is “Avengers: Infinity War.” The movie had a budget of an astounding $316 to 400 million and received $2 billion dollars at the box office. The movie tells of the Avengers and their fight against Thanos, who will destroy the world, with his six Infinity Stones. It received an 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and won many awards such as an Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects.

 

Last on the list is one of the most frightening and thrilling movies of 2018, “Halloween.” The movie tells of Laurie Strode, a survivor, and her struggle to keep her family safe from the legendary killer, Michael Myers. The movie received an 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and $253.7 million at the box office.

 

2018 was an amazing year for movies and films, and the festivities concluded with the 91st Academy Awards on Feb. 24.
