Despite the school year being cut short three months because of the coronavirus pandemic, The Crusader continued to produce award-winning news, receiving more than 30 individual and staff awards, including Third Place for Print and Online General Excellence from the California News Publishers Association and Third Place for Breaking News Stream for the Special Edition: Coronavirus, from the Journalism Education Association of Northern California.

The Crusader won seven awards from the CNPA, 15 from the California Press Women, three from the JEANC, six Best of SNOs, and one from Santa Clara University’s Journalism Contest.

In addition, eight students were named to the National Scholastic Press Association’s National Journalism Honor Roll, and nine were Honor Cord recipients for the JEANC.

In recognition of their accomplishments during the school year, including the continuous stream of news provided during the pandemic-prompted shutdown in the spring, the Archbishop Riordan Administration presented The Crusader 2019-2020 staff with a banner that reads: “The Crusader 2020 All Stars.”
