Young NFL stars make millions
November 27, 2020
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Super Bowl Champions, Kansas City Chiefs, is regarded as one of, if not the best player in the National Football League. Over the Summer, the Super Bowl MVP signed a contract extension and here are the details.
The Patrick Mahomes contract is 10 years long and worth $503 million, making him the highest paid player/quarterback in the NFL, one of the richest athletes in the world, and the highest paid NFL athlete ever. Let’s not forget that his contract is the largest contract in sports history!
“He has worked so hard his whole life to this point. He has replicated his father’s work ethic whom was a Kansas City Royal, and that’s what makes him so special. It’s been lots of heartbreak, and since the 50 years of winning the [last] Super Bowl we have been dying,” said Chiefs’ fan and social science teacher Cory Nelson. “To have this guy come in and win us a Super Bowl, not a single Chiefs fan thinks he doesn’t deserve the money.”
Mahomes has posted record breaking numbers in his first three seasons as a quarterback. He has had the highest quarterback rating of 108.9, the most passing yards: 9,925, as well as 81 passing touchdowns to a measly 18 interceptions.
“In Kansas City, this guy is a God. No person in Kansas City is more important than Mahomes. He’s a leader in every way and he’s not just using his money on himself, but giving back to the community and I’m cool with giving him a billion dollars,” Nelson said.
After winning the league MVP in 2018, and the Super Bowl MVP in 2019, the 25 year old was due for a contract extension, but no one expected such a massive deal for the all-pro.
“Knowing we have our Super Bowl roster back this season, with most of our players contracted, I got goosebumps. There’s nothing better than that. We’re going to be dominating the Chargers, Broncos, Raiders, and the rest of the AFC for a while,” Nelson said.
On the other side of the country and representing the Super Bowl runners up, George Kittle, Tight End for the San Francisco 49ers, is one of the best players in the NFL now and the best at his position without a doubt.
After breaking the single season record for receiving yards as a tight end, posting two 1,000 yard seasons, and coming just short of a Super Bowl win, he was due to get an extension. Kittle signed to a five year, $75 million contract, making him the highest paid tight end in football.
“It’s awesome to see him back. If anyone deserves it it’s him, he’s going to change the position and the money the tight ends get,” said Aidan O’Connor ’21.
49er fans should rejoice for getting their all-pro tight end back. He has been an icon for Bay Area fans throughout the past couple of years, especially when times looked rough for the niners.
Kittle got a MCL sprain during week 1 against a disappointing loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He came back for Sunday Night Football in week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
George Kittle was upgraded to a starter after missing several games and showed why he’s the best tight end in football, by hauling in all 15 receptions, 183 yards and a touchdown in a loss to a banged up Philadelphia Eagles squad.
“That’s a guy we need. We don’t want to see him go and play him as an opponent. He’s a guy who can take over a game. You put players that are hidden gems around him that can contribute to the team, this team will shine,” O’Connor said.
The people’s tight end will stay in the Bay and give defenses a run for their money.
