Cultural Night was an amazing evening that showed Riordan’s diversity and community. The performances were exciting and the food was delicious. The night opened with Music Club performing a medley of traditional American songs, including “American Pie” and “Sweet Caroline” among other songs.

Katelyn Tzang ’28 said her favorite part was “Just being able to represent American culture as a Chinese person from an immigrant household.”

Next, Latinos Unidos walked onto the stage energetically, and performed their dances. After their performance they invited everyone to join them on stage and learn a simple dance.

The next performance got everyone out of their seats dancing along. The unforgettable Zumba performance by Riordan teachers Dr. Caroline Tsuyuki-Gochoco and Karina Mathisen was one of my favorite parts.

Another amazing performance was when a student named Zitong Tommy Tang sang a Chinese love song. He then invited the audience to the stage to learn a phrase in Chinese.

Maggie Connard, the dance class teacher, attended her first Cultural Night. She said, “Seeing so many different cultures represented made me extremely proud of the diversity of our school.” Connard especially enjoyed learning dances from students. Connard also said she plans to return next year.

The Irish Heritage Club performed Irish dances while the audience clapped and cheered.

When the group finished, they brought people up on stage to learn a simple group dance. This performance was fast paced and brought the energy up before the opportunity to try foods from around the world.

Then there was a chance for everyone to indulge in delicious food provided by the community. There was everything from Irish soda bread, Spanish rice, pupusas, and spam musubi. After eating incredible food, everyone headed over to watch more performances.

The PAC performed a Tinikling dance, which was enchanting and impressive to watch.

Next, there was a performance where two dancers showcased a Korean fan dance. The Arab club showed their pride, waving flags and performing a dance that was fast paced and exciting. This was their first time performing at Cultural Night. Diana Awwad ’28 said, “This performance was very special to me and my club as it was our first year participating.” She said it was “a chance to share my culture.”

Pasifika, the Polynesian Heritage Club, closed the night with dances from different Polynesian cultures.

Cultural Night celebrated the many cultures represented at Riordan through dance and food.
