Fortnite continues to build up to victory

May 7, 2018

Fortnite is a new Battle Royale game that is on the rise, but Fortnite did not always have the popular Battle Royale mode. The objective of a Battle Royale game is to loot around the map and outlive opponents.

The game was developed from 2011 to 2017, and the first alpha for the game came out in mid 2017.

“Save the World” is a survival based gamemode in which players must take out rounds of zombies to kill from the storm. Players have to pay for this portion of the game, but this mode is not what made the game popular.

The popular free to play Battle Royale mode that made this game famous first came out in September of 2017.What makes Fortnite different from any other Battle Royale game is that you are able to get materials and build structures to help yourself in a fight. The game is available on all platforms which are PC, PS4, Xbox, and Mobile.

“Fortnite is an amazing free to play game that other people around the world like me enjoy playing,” said Noah Yamsuan ’18. “What I honestly enjoy about Fortnite is how competitive and fun it could be. Even when playing alone, you can have lots of fun, even more so with friends. I also like how you can play with people that have the game on different devices and systems. It gives everyone a chance to play the game however they want and whenever they want.”

Yamsuan added, “With the addition of private implemented into the game, it makes it easier to play with whoever you want to play with, and could be used to set up friendly tournaments with friends.”

A few famous people have played this game. On twitch.tv, a streamer who goes by the name Ninja played with rapper Drake, rapper Travis Scott, and JuJu Smith of the Steelers. “It was pretty cool seeing famous people play Fortnite,” said Gabe Santos ’21.

This stream also broke a record on twitch.tv of 635,000 people watching at once, which is incredible.

The New Season of Fortnite, which is season 4, has gotten a lot of attention. The theme is superheroes.

In the battle pass, there are some new superhero themed skins. A special event also occurred.A meteor has hit Dusty Depot and changed the location to Dusty Divot. There is also a new location on the map called Risky Reels.

They have also added to the game, art you can spray, and armor you can equip your character with.

RCade adviser Chris Fern said, “I can see why Fortnite is addicting. The game is very chaotic and when you die, it is fast to put you in another lobby. What got me into the Fortnite genre was a Japanese movie called “Battle Royale,” which is 100 teens fighting each other to stay alive.”

Fern added, “I do not play Fortnite until my homework is done. I read my children bedtime stories before I play. Master yourself before you master Fortnite.”
