Earlier this month, a large influx of Russian troops positioned on the Ukrainian border, and as of Nov. 26,  there are at least 100,000 troops, multiple tank divisions and other heavy military equipment there as well.

In response to this, the United States has issued warnings that Russia might possibly be planning an invasion of Ukraine.

In 2014, a Russian backed sepritist party started a war in the Donbass and Crimea regions of Ukraine.

Russia annexed Crimea permanently, making it a part of Russia with other countries following by putting heavy embargos and stopped trading with Russia. The war in Ukraine is still happening to this day.

“I have family over there so if Russia were to invade, I would be concerned for their safety,” said Daniel Bales ’24.

Russia has been positioning troops on the border of Ukraine for a few weeks now making US officials worried of an impending attack on Ukraine.

The United States, NATO, and the UK have sworn that if Ukraine is invaded they will come to its aid.

Some officials want to impose more sanctions on Russia but others are worried that if that happens, it might give them an incentive to invade.

President Biden called Putin on Dec. 7 to de-escalate tensions between the two countries and to hopefully come to an agreement
