Coming around every four years, the pinnacle of professional soccer, the World Cup is being hosted by the U. S., along with our North American neighbors Canada and Mexico.
Tickets to see the global sensations range between $600 to well over $30,000. Here are two Bay Area spots to catch the World Cup without the thousand dollar price point.
SoMa Social opened its doors for the first time on May 15 in anticipation of the World Cup. Located at 121 7th St., SoMa Social serves everything from early morning breakfasts to late night watch parties.
It has TVs lining the walls for easy viewing and subtle homages to Bay Area teams throughout the restaurant.
SoMa Social has an incredibly homey environment. Warm lights and friendly waiters make SoMa Social a lovely spot for getting together with friends and family, regardless of interest in a big match.
The menu is diverse, including watch party classics, such as smash burgers, nachos, and wings, but also tacos, meatball subs, and steak frites.
Good food, casual, plenty of TVs, and a welcoming environment make SoMa Social the perfect spot to catch a World Cup game.
Splash, located at Chase Center, is a hotbed for watching all major sports matches. With luxurious quilted booths and historic Warriors memorabilia throughout, Splash has a cool and upscale vibe with an unapologetic love for sports.
The food was delicious, serving all the classics, from smash burgers to nachos to mac and cheese.
What really makes Splash special is the giant panoramic screen visible from everywhere in the restaurant, similar to something you would find in a stadium. No matter where you turn, it’s impossible to miss the game.
The people at Splash were certainly all in with the sports energy. Every point made, every big play, was celebrated or booed. It almost felt as if you were at the stadium, feeling the electricity of the game in person.
That being said, without having much interest in a sports game, Splash may not be the most enjoyable environment.
Splash’s all-in sports extravagance makes it a perfect spot for a special occasion and a big game while SoMa Social’s inviting, casual environment makes it a great spot for getting together and enjoying World Cup matches.
